The Story

For as long as I could remember I have always been surrounded by music, growing up, my parents were big music fans, you’d hear my dad’s favorite jazz records whenever his childhood friends and brothers came to visit; and my mom had a battery-operated kitchen radio that she’d liked to listen to uKhozi FM music and stories on (she does still is to this day). I started singing at quite a young age, not that I was good at it, but I was inevitably drawn to singing and the good feeling it brings. I always could never stop singing; I even still remember some of the songs radio played a lot around the time I became hooked on it. There was always music and laughter around us, and as young as I was, these are some of my most unforgettable memories.

I’ve always been in to soulful or jazzy music, and its ability to evoke powerful emotional responses, the sounds are calm, soothing, rhythmic, and warm; these are all the feelings embedded in all the cassettes, CD’s and yes records that my dad had. When I started high school, I almost immediately became known for public speaking; I’d deliver speeches, motivational talks and recite poetry at the assembly. This was quite a thrilling experience, but each time I’d always seem to be able win the hearts of the crown or Monday morning assembly.

It didn’t take long for me to start writing and free styling my own poetry, and this was always intertwined with my then developing love for rap. My introduction into Hip-Hop/rap music was through listening to the undeniable rap legends of the 90’s; I appreciated hearing that rebellious yet educative and conscious style of rap.

I started recording music sooner than I expected I would; one summer during the time university closes my friend (ReiBandz), and now long-term producer, started making beats and sending me beats. We went on to make my first few songs instantly and continue to make more and better songs till this day.
